Acrylonitrile homopolymer (acrylic) filter fiber shows good resistance to organic solvents, oxidants, inorganic and organic acids at temperatures below 125. Acrylonitrile homopolymers do not hydrolize, so acrylic felt filter bags are used to replace polyester felt filter bags in low temperature chemical corrosion and wet conditions. Acrylonitrile copolymer is not resistant to hydrolysis, so it can not be used as a substitute for homopolymer in filtration.
